When it comes to marketing, it’s important to be present wherever your audience is. With over 500 million users, Instagram is a a social media tool definitely worth leveraging.

How can you really use Instagram to market your brand? Here are a few tips for you to keep in mind to really make your brand stand out.

1. Have a Business Instagram Account

When you create an Instagram account for your brand, be sure to make it a business account. This can be done in settings of the account. 

Having a business account allows you to put a little description of your company, your company website, phone number, email and other important information. But MOST IMPORTANTLY, you can have access to Instagram Analytics by having a business account. This means that you can see the number of impressions you have each week, how many people clicked on your website link from you page, and the demographics of your Instagram followers.

 

2. Photos are EVERYTHING

Unlike Facebook, you can’t post on Instagram without a photo or video. Photos (and videos) are the main part of Instagram! People pay more attention to these images then they do to the posts (although they still read those).

Make sure that your digital element is top-notch! You want a photo that’s high-resolution and something that will make people stop on it. Make it something that people want to share with their friends!

The more engagements a post receives the more people see it.

3. Tagging and Linking

Cross-promoting is an important part of Instagram. Many companies promote each other outright. They just tag another company (that’s relevant to the post), whether they tag in the caption or the photo. This can get other Instagram followers to notice your posts, and in turn your account. 

Linking is a no-go in Instagram, so don’t post links in your captions. People can’t click on the link, so it’s really no good to include it on there. You can have one link in your bio, so if you want people going to your website, you can tell them in the caption to check out the link in your bio.

4. Hashtags

Hashtags are an important part of Instagram. They categorize your content and allow other to find it. People will do hashtag searches, and if you used a hashtag they type in, your content will show up. 

Make sure your hashtag is relevant to  your content. If it’s not, people will just get annoyed. 

Create your own hashtag that you use with all your posts. Using your brand name as a hashtag could be a good idea. Regularly use this hashtag throughout your social media use.

5. Switch up the Posts

Try to not always do the same old posts. Switch it up every now and then.

Maybe try a promotional give-away. This can get people really involved. Come up with some prize, and require all your users to follow you on Instagram and tag a friend on the post. Doing something along these lines will build your Instagram following.

The “Slight Edge” Secret to Success

People are constantly looking to improve themselves – which is why the “self-help” industry is a $9.6 billion industry. Everyone wants an answer for how to improve themselves and their businesses. Is there a secret formula?

What if I told you there was? What if I told you that there’s a way for you to succeed in life and in your business? This secret is called the slight edge and comes from a book called (surprise) “The Slight Edge” by Jeff Olson.

Just a quick disclaimer: Although I’m going to share some key points from this book that can help you on your progressive journey, it really won’t do justice to the book itself. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend reading this book. It can change your life.

What is the Slight Edge?

The slight edge is what sets you apart from others. It’s consistent effort compounded over and over, eventually resulting in success. There’s a good story that Jeff Olson shares that really drives this point home. I’m going to summarize it.

There was a wealthy man who had two sons. He was nearing the end of his life and wanted to give them a gift. So he brought his sons in and offered them two different purses – the choice was theirs. 

One purse had 1,000 $1,000 bills – one million dollars cash. The other held a penny. His instructions to them were this, ” I offer the same choice to you both. This million dollars; or this single penny. Whichever you choose, you must leave it in your purse under my butler’s care for one full month to give you time to think about how you will use it. Whatever you do not take will be returned to my estate, which I’ll leave to charity… If you choose the million, you may, if you wish, draw against it as credit with my bank in town. If you choose the penny, you can also draw against it, but every day you choose to leave the penny’s line of credit untouched, my butler has instructions to double the contents of your purse, for as long as it is under his care.”

The next day one son chose the cash and the other chose the penny. 

The brother who chose the million dollars hired several different advisers, analysts and experts to help him grow his money and started to invest it. The other brother didn’t touch his penny at all.

After the month the brother who chose the million dollars received news that his investments had grown to $1.5 million, but the expenses of investing and hiring his team of people exceeded the total amount. Instead of being rich, he owed $250,000.

In turn, the other brother received his purse that he had not touched. The contents had been doubled everyday for the entire month. His purse now held over $10 million. 

Just as compound interest can result in a fortune (with TIME), compound effort can result in successThis is what the slight edge is all about.

Most people want a quick, easy fix. They want their problem to be solved right now with minimal effort. Sorry to break it to you, but that’s not how real life works. 

There is no easy fix. That’s called fiction. It takes consistent effort on your part. 

Although there are differing beliefs on what the true meaning of success is, Jeff Olson describes it as the “progressive realization of a worthy ideal.” Success is something that you’re constantly working toward. You don’t all-of-a-sudden arrive at success, you’ll experience it here and there, over time.

As you’re working toward this, you’re not likely to see results right away – it may be further down the road. But that doesn’t mean what you’re doing isn’t helping you progress.

Keys to the Slight Edge – How to Apply it

Start now! The perfect time to do something never comes. You have to do it now. As Jeff Olson says, “It’s never too late to start. It’s always too late to wait.” So start doing those few push-ups and sit ups every day. Start eating vegetables every day. Start writing down five things you’re grateful for every day. Start saving money every month. 

The small, everyday actions that lead to success are easy to do, but they’re also easy to not do. Eating vegetables everyday is easy to do, but it’s also easy to not do. Telling your family you love them everyday is easy to do, but it’s also easy to not do. Saving a little bit of your paycheck every month is easy to do, but it’s also easy to not do. 

TIME is key! It’s either working for you or against you. Here’s Jeff Olson’s formula for success:

You supply the actions,” he says “the universe will supply the time. The trick is to choose the actions that, when multiplied by this universal amplifier, will yield the result you want. To position your everyday actions so time works for you, and not against you.”

So, what does this mean for you? It’s really how you take it. Are there actions you know you could be doing to improve your business, to improve your relationships (business and personal), or to improve yourself? 

Like I said, this little summary of the slight edge is very minimal, but maybe it can give you a little motivation to do something different. Start working your way to success.

Slackline your Real Estate Marketing

Real estate marketing can be difficult. You’re not just selling something cheap that people can buy on a whim. You’re selling one of the most important items people will ever purchase – a home! How do you turn leads into clients? How do you market yourself? How do you build up a clientele?

To illustrate some ideas on real estate marketing, I’m going to use an analogy.

Have any of you tried slacklining? Let me tell you, it’s not easy. It’s something that takes a lot of practice. You have to find the best way to distribute your weight so you can have perfect balance as you walk across. As you get more and more comfortable, soon you can walk across forwards then backwards and even bounce up and down on the line.

While at first it takes a lot of focus, once you master it, you no longer have to think about it. It’s something you can pretty much do in your sleep. You now have an ability that not many people have. To be able to walk across a thin line several feet above the ground is something to be proud of, it’s a skill that sets  you apart. 

 

What Does this Have to Do with Real Estate?

Think of the slack line as a niche or a focus. You have to walk the line that you can be good at!

If you’re too broad in  your marketing efforts, trying to reach everyone and everything, progress and success will be minimal. As Entrepreneur.com said, “No business – particularly a small one – can be all things to all people.”

Many realtors try to go broad in their real estate marketing. It’s the easy route that everyone wants to take, but it doesn’t create an identity

Creating an identity is vital for your success! If you want people to recognize and know you, you must stand out in your area of expertise

You have to learn to walk a narrow line so you can stand out above everyone else.

 

Find your Niche

How can you find your niche? Discover something you’re passionate about and something you may have more knowledge on! 

Do you love playing golf? Focus on selling in golf course communities. Do you love staying up with the new home trends? Fill your social media with photos of white cabinet kitchens and wood flooring!

Maybe pick a certain demographic you focus on or a specific zip code. 

Then whatever you decide, stick with it.

You can pick a few different niches, but, if you do, market each individually. Don’t start mixing everything together – that would completely defeat the purpose of niche marketing.

Make Niche Marketing Work for You

I always tell my clients that “narrow and deep is the way to traction, not broad and wide.” Broad and wide is like driving a Toyota on a sandy beach. You’ll be spinning your wheels, but you won’t have any traction; you won’t get anywhere.

Knowledge

Once you pick a focus, you’ll start attracting the people that are interested in that specific area. You’ll also find yourself becoming more and more knowledgeable on the topic. 

Share this knowledge with your consumers. Show them you’re an expert in this area. Let them know that if they want to own a home on a golf course, you’re going to be the best Realtor for the job!

 

Quality

Although you won’t reach everyone in your real estate marketing, those you do reach will be more quality leads. QUALITY NOT QUANTITY! You may have less Facebook followers or visitors to your webpage, but those that do follow you and go to your website are more serious and will be willing to spend more time and effort researching you and your content.

Time
