Social media trends never cease to surprise us with its rapid evolution and growing features. It’s clear that it has continued to change at a rapid pace and we know you want to stay ahead of the social game, right? Right! For example, over a year ago, several major social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram added sharing stories as a feature – – fast forward to the present, over 300 million people are sharing stories on Instagram everyday! 

If you want to be successful as a chef, hairstylist, makeup artist, realtor, or any type of occupation that is entrepreneurial in nature, it’s crucial to stay ahead of the social media curve and embrace its latest trends. 

That’s why we’ve put together 7 of the top major trends to help grow your business on social media now! 

 

1. Ephemeral Stories

This type of content is a great way to create fresh content, reach wider audiences, and create urgency as well as exclusivity to your viewers. What is an ephemeral story? It’s a message, whether it be text, image or video, that is shown on your profile for a limited period of time and disappears. Although Snapchat was the original creator of this type of content sharing, Instagram and Facebook has just as many, if not more users. 

So what does this mean for your business?

This means you have the opportunity to share a myriad of unique content to reach audience members that may not be following you yet and/or make your current followers feel special. It’s also an opportunity to stay fresh in your viewer’s minds by appearing at the top (refer to the image above as to how your stories appear on one’s header). Here are some ideas for sharing ephemeral stories on the platform that you prefer:

-Sneak peeks into your brand/company’s products

There was a time when customer service used to only be held in private; emails, phone calls and forms. Not anymore. As long as the use of social media rises (and it probably will), so will the rise of customer service being in the public eye. Businesses that have a facebook page, instagram page or any social media platform cannot afford to ignore customers. Many social media users are quick to essentially “call out” a business for their dissatisfaction and it is in your business interest to respond to all social messages/comments in a timely manner.

Ignoring any social media comments or messages about your business can have dire consequences and can discourage other fans to distrust your business. It’s not worth it. Make it a priority to respond to all messages on social. 

 

3. Currently 2.46 BILLION Social Media Users

It’s also been predicted to have over 3 billion social media users in the year 2021. With that being said, out of the 2.45 billion social media users that are online day to day, some of them could be your most valuable future fans and/or customers. It just comes down to how you are targeting them. What’s the best way to target your specific type of customers? Ask yourself the following questions about your business:

-What is your niche

-What type of fans/customers do you currently have? 

-What types of things motivates your target?

-Keep headlines/captions short, precise and engaging

5. Video: The Most Popular Content Type 

 

By the year 2020, according to Inc.com, 80% of the entire global internet traffic will soon be attributed by videos! In fact, 73% of B2B companies have reported positive results to their ROI from their marketing campaigns. With that being said, video content has become so increasingly valuable and popular that it’s impossible for businesses and entrepreneurs to ignore.

 

6. User-Generated Content

So, what is user-generated content and what does it mean? It is essentially any content that is created from a customer using a specific product or brand. For example, if Sheila buys a Starbucks drink and takes a selfie with her Starbucks and tags @Starbucks on Instagram, that is what’s considered user-generated content because Sheila created the content. It’s a great way to encourage trust from other brand users and showcases a truer than true testimonial. 

How can you incorporate user-generated content for your brand’s social media? 

Here are some tips: 

-Run contest/quizzes/promotions on social media and encourage users to participate and provide content

-Leverage the use of hashtags to spread the word of your promotion/contest while encouraging users to use it when talking about your brand’s contest. Ex: #PutACanOnIt

7. Trust Declines as Peer Influence Rise  

Remember the days when you’d see celebrity endorsements on your favorite cereal box? Or how about Macho Man Randy Savage “snapping into a Slim Jim”? These days, celebrity endorsements aren’t as impactful. In fact, as cool as those celebrities are, it’s going to take much more to convince a consumer to buy into a brand. 

So, why did celebrity endorsements stop working? One answer: authenticity

The demand for authenticity is higher than ever and it comes down to how you portray that in your brand or product. Be yourself, use stories to record conversations about your brands with people who have actually used it. Encourage users to tell stories about your brand and tag you on it.

As you’re reflecting, you’ll began to feel the stress or negative feelings dissipate! Whether you’re writing these in a journal or meditating, find some way to wind down and make a list of what you’re grateful for that day.

“I took the road less traveled by, and that has made all the difference”-Robert Frost 

What does this quote mean to you? In the best selling book “The Slight Edge” by Jeff Olson, he explains that 95 percent of us will choose the easiest route. For example, hitting the snooze button every morning, skipping workouts, not saving money, etc.

The other 5 percent knows that success stems from making the best everyday choices. They know those private unseen moments ultimately determine what path your life will take. They risk being uncomfortable enough to reach new heights and make those everyday choices that will lead to a more fulfilled and successful life.

One of the biggest points Olson emphasizes in this powerful book, is that we are never staying in the same place. We are either making choices that lead us on the upward curve towards abundant success and progress OR we are riding that downward curve with poor choices inhibiting our growth.

Start Somewhere!

So what area in your life do you want to see more success in? Is it in your spiritual life? Do you want more growth in your career or financial life? `Whatever it is, Olson offers a simple solution.

First, decide where it is you want to see improvement. Pick just one thing for now that you would love to see change in your life. The key is to start somewhere! That first move will give you the momentum to keep making more and more changes over time. In The Slight Edge, Olson says,”Wherever you can take action and begin creating little successes DO IT.” Because guess what? These little successes will always pour into other areas of your life. That 5 percent group I was talking about KNOWS that you can’t accomplish it all at once. Time is their friend and they don’t get discouraged when things don’t change right away.

If you’ve been wanting to improve your health, start by taking a walk around the neighborhood once a day, join a gym, or stop drinking soda. You want to be a more organized person? Start with that junk drawer that drives you crazy! Do you want to improve the relationships in your life? Maybe start by showing little acts of service each day or saying I love you more!

Whatever area it is, just stay patient and consistent and watch the progress inevitably happen.

Ignore the Doubters

“Men will never fly, because flying is reserved for angels.”

Do you know who said that? The famous Wright Brothers father, Milton Wright. Clearly the Wright Brothers didn’t let words get them down. They invented and flew the world’s first successful airplane, took to the sky, and proved all the people who doubted them wrong.

Do you know what keeps many of us from “flying”? Before we turn 5 years old, we’ve already heard 40,000 no’s and only hear yes about 5,000 times. As we get older, hearing no becomes more and more frequent. At some point in our lives, we share our dreams and ambitions and get shot down or told to choose something more realistic.

In The Slight Edge, Olson says,” If you are one of those rare and special 5 percenters who decides to ignore gravity, take to the sky and break free of the downward pull of life – I’ve got good and bad news for you. The good news is you’re already exceptionally well oriented toward success. The bad news, is all those 95 percenters are going to be yanking on you, sitting on you, naysaying, and doing their best to pull you back down.”

WHY? Because if you succeed, it reinforces the fact that they are not where they want to be.

Rise up and drown out the negative voices from others.

Blame vs. Taking Responsibility

If you want to get a good idea of how successful you or anyone else will be, this is a pretty good determinant. The predominant state of mind displayed by people on the upward curve of success is taking responsibility. Can you guess what the downward failure curve individuals display? Blame.  

Taking responsibility liberates you. Hard times come upon all of us , and most will be completely out of our control. How we view and react to these setbacks makes the difference between success and failure.  “A man can fail many times, but he isn’t a failure until he begins to blame somebody else.”

Don’t be a victim, this is the perfect mind set for failure. Set high standards, take responsibility for who and where you are in life.

Creating habits to become more productive is an ongoing process. New updates, emails, and meetings pop up and throw us off our routines all the time. So how do you stay productive amongst all these distractions?

You form new effective habits, discipline your time, and make your actions for your day connect to your long term goals.

Here are 6 tips to help get you started!

1. Develop a Morning Routine

I know your bed feels extra comfy in the morning, BUT some of the most successful and influential people use this time to kick start their day. Whether it’s a morning walk, eating a healthy breakfast, or practicing yoga- many entrepreneurs will tell you this is one of the most transformative and effective habits to become more productive!

Developing a great morning routine is important because it sets the tone for the rest of your day. If you wake up as late as possible, skip breakfast, and rush to work daily- this can take a toll on you in the long run and leave you feeling exhausted and unfulfilled.

Your first instinct when you wake up is probably to go through your Facebook, emails, Instagram, etc. It’s recommended to avoid those right away, postpone that until after you are finished with your growth building routine.  You may come across something upsetting, or an angry email- this is obviously not the best way to start your day. You’ll have a better reaction after yoga, running, or other mind/body building routines to start your day off on a positive note.

A planned morning routine will set you up for success and leave you feeling more organized and less anxious throughout your day. Successful entrepreneurs master this great skill.

2. Practice an Evening Routine

How you end your day is just as important as how you began it.

Reflect over your day. What were your successes, even if they were small? What could’ve been improved? What did you love most about today? What will you do better tomorrow? Pose questions that will bring you closer to your goals for yourself and your business.

Make a Plan! Make a list of your top priorities with an organized plan of what you will accomplish the next day. Learn from your mistakes today to make it an even better tomorrow! This will help you wake up feeling prepared for your day.

Lastly, don’t forget to have fun. Make sure to spend time doing the things you love with the ones you love most.

3. Figure out when you are MOST focused

One of the most popular tips for becoming a more productive human being, is to pinpoint when you feel most energized and most focused. Then use this hour or two of your day to brainstorm, make important calls, or whatever needs most of your energy/creativity. You are now more excited and focused to accomplish your tasks.

Does this energy stem from an awesome workout? After reading a chapter from an inspirational book? Find your “feel good” moment and take off from there!

4. Adjust your TO-DO Lists

Most often, our to-do lists set us up for becoming overwhelmed. Did you know minimizing these lists is actually more effective for your day? Why include items to your list that you know you’ll never get done? This leaves us trying to catch up with our day and feeling more fatigued.

Solution? Jot down what absolutely needs to be done that day, and move forward after those are crossed off. Give 100% to one or two things at a time, instead of 10% of your best to a million other items.

Productivity expert Leo Babauta is an advocate of MITs (Most Important Tasks). He wakes up and decides what three things that he must accomplish that day. One of these tasks must move him closer toward his long term goal.  This effective habit has been proven to boost productivity in the highest fashion.

5. Act with Intention

Now that you have a productive plan for the day and you’ve narrowed down your list to what is most important –  make sure every visit, call with a client, email, and bullet point on your list is done with a purpose.  What’s the goal of the conversations you have to have today? Plan responses ahead of time and anticipate your customers concerns and needs for the day.

6. Be selective with your time

Be stingy with your time and who gets it. Reversely treat other people’s time with respect.

Avoid lagging on timelines, and perform tasks as quickly and efficiently as you can. This is one of the most effective habits that has to be a priority to be productive! Cut yourself off from all distractions, work down your list, and then allow yourself a break for lesser priorities or free time.

Let’s keep it simple…stay centered and make sure you are right in the middle of your shot. Avoid holding your camera directly below your face while recording or too close up.

 

2. Staging

Setting the stage for your background has a huge impact on the look and feel of your videos. These videos can take place in your office or out on an adventure with you at a beautiful home! There’s a wide variety of places you can choose from, but if you are planning on consistently shooting from your home, its important to designate a room and set the stage accordingly. 

Keep it clean and simple. Setting up your background could involve a cute (yes I just said cute, ha,ha) bookcase, a beautiful lamp, flowers in a vase- whatever fits your style! Avoid a dark, gloomy, messy, or unorganized backdrop. 

If you do plan on taking your camera to a new listing, plan ahead of time for your favorite two or three rooms to highlight. This way you aren’t running around from room to room confusing the viewers. Show them what is the most appealing and spend your video time highlighting those areas. 

 

Live or Scripted?

Another key factor when creating videos is deciding whether you’re going to do a live or scripted video. 

A live video on Instagram or Facebook instantly sends a notification to all of your friends & followers that you are recording.
